The GLP-1 Clinic Opportunity: What the Ozempic Boom Means for Your Business

More Australians than ever are on a GLP-1 medication, and that's creating a client need most clinics aren't set up to meet yet. If you're weighing up whether a HIFU machine is worth the investment, the GLP-1 trend is the clearest signal in the market right now.
The numbers behind the boom
Independent analysis from UNSW's School of Population Health found Australian GLP-1 medicine sales rose almost 10-fold in five years, from 57,941 units a month in May 2020 to 496,875 units a month by April 2025, roughly half a million Australians, or close to 2% of the adult population, on a monthly dose. Close to 44% of that usage is private, paid out of pocket, since no GLP-1 medicine is currently PBS-subsidised for weight loss (only for type 2 diabetes). These are motivated, paying clients already spending on their own health, not a fringe market.

Why fast weight loss creates a service gap
Diet and exercise alone rarely strip fat as quickly as a GLP-1 medication can. That speed is exactly the problem for skin: loose skin, stubborn pockets around the stomach, thighs, arms and under the chin, and stretched skin that hasn't had time to adjust. Clients feel this mid-journey, not just once they've hit goal weight, and most clinics simply don't have an answer for it.
Recurring revenue, not a single sale
A client on a GLP-1 journey isn't a one-off booking. Their journey typically runs months, and treating stubborn areas as they go (rather than waiting until the end) means multiple sessions spread across that time, a natural upsell if you already run a skin or beauty clinic, and a service that pairs with whatever weight loss method your client is using rather than competing against it.
What it takes to capture this client base
You don't need to already be a HIFU expert. A clinic-grade HIFU machine, step-by-step training, and Australian-based support are what turn this trend into a bookable service, not just an observation. See our full breakdown of treatment areas, timing and the post-significant-weight-loss face niche, and model the numbers on our break-even calculator.
Where to start
If you're already running treatments, this is a straightforward add-on. If you're starting from scratch, our clinic starter kits bundle the machine with training and support built for exactly this. Either way, start with the numbers: use the calculator with your own hours and pricing before you commit.
